ISAPh2018

University of Aizu (Aizuwakamatsu, Japan)
19-21 September, 2018

The 2nd International Symposium on Applied Phonetics will be held in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima, Japan, on September 19-21, 2018. Back in March 2016, the 1st ISAPh was held in Nagoya, Japan and over 100 participants from around 15 countries made presentations and enjoyed the talks. We hope to have just as many, if not more, participants this time and we encourage you to submit an abstract.

Interest in the importance of speech communication has been growing in recent years, and phonetic knowledge is essential in the teaching of any language. In our increasingly globalized society, educators involved in teaching pronunciation and phonetics have an important role to play, but many feel isolated and are uncertain about what and how to teach. This symposium offers an unprecedented opportunity to raise questions, discuss issues, share information, and in particular,

  • To present research results and themes in phonetics education,
  • To bring up issues and problems in relation to phonetics education,
  • To report on phonetics education from your country or organization.

We have an excellent lineup of 4 confirmed keynote speakers, and we will have many other talks and a poster session. We also have one (but maybe two) workshops on the final morning---more details about this later.

Abstracts will be submitted through EasyChair, following this link. The deadline for 2-page abstracts is May 18, 2018.

Immediately after the conference, the famous "Aizu Matsuri" festival will be held in Aizuwakamatsu (September 22-24). This year is the 150th anniversary of the Boshin Civil War, and the festival will be a big one! You are strongly recommended to book accomodation early. We have reserved a block of hotel rooms at both the Washington Hotel and Toyoko Inn, and we will give details about these soon.

Hope to see you in Aizu in September!!
