On Monday 21 of November, 18:10 (room iLab 1), we will host a special lecture given by Prof. Nobuo Koizumi on wave table synthesizers in Pure-data. Participation of undergraduate and graduate students is highly encouraged. Please share this information with your friends and whomever you think is appropriate.
Those who are member of my lab or my SCCP must come to the lecture. In case you can’t, please let me know in advance. Note that the lecture would be given in Japanese in principle, but Prof. Koizumi can answer your questions in English, and maybe give the lecture in English if most participants require it.
The structure of wavetable synthesizer will be explained and programming with pure data will be shown. Wavetable synthesizer is composed of modules such as MIDI controller, wavetable, filter, amplifier, low frequency oscillator and envelope generator. Waveform and power spectra of the generated signal will be observed. Also, effect on frequency modulation will be shown.
Nobuo Koizumi is Professor at Department of Informatics, Tokyo University of Information Sciences, Japan. He received his B.E. degree from Kyoto Institute of Technology, M.E. degree from Kyoto University in 1975, and Dr.Eng. degree from Shizuoka University in 1992. He worked in the NTT laboratories and NTT Data laboratories from 1975 to 1999, where he was involved in research on acoustics and development on audio conferencing and telephony equipment. From 1988 to 1989, he was a visiting scientist in Department of Mechanical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He joined Tokyo University of Information Sciences in 1999. He was a board member of Tokyo University of Agriculture University Corporation from 2005 to 2007. His current interests include audio signal processing and sound media design. He is a member of IEEE, ASA, AES, IEICE, ASJ, IPSJ, JAS and VRSJ. He was a chairman of the Engineering Acoustics Technical Committee cooperated by IEICE (The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers) and ASJ (The Acoustical Society of Japan).
